  Synopsis

Their lives form an unlikely cross-section of the city — a teenage internet addict in a Bronx housing complex; a Queens government worker and hobbyist martial artist; an immigrant bicycle courier in crowded temporary housing; a wealthy high-school senior broadcasting his life online; an aspiring rapper; an eccentric dentist; and a middle-aged man in a Brooklyn residence for adults with intellectual disabilities.

As the day unfolds, their paths cross. One delivers another man's food. One enters another's Uber. A livestream captures someone who does not know he is being watched. A minor accident, a drug sale, a dental emergency, or a chance encounter on the subway briefly binds strangers whose lives appear to have nothing in common, revealing the hidden systems that connect them long before they arrive at the same destination.

Some are experienced; others are young, boastful, lonely, compulsive, broke, curious, or simply bored. Their preparations become intimate portraits of masculinity in America: men rehearsing confidence, concealing fear, performing for one another, searching for contact in a city built on proximity without intimacy.

Shot handheld and vérité, the film combines actors with real respondents to an open Craigslist casting call, destabilizing the boundary between documentary and fiction. Bleak, absurd, and darkly funny, it uses an event of enormous scale to examine twenty private lives — a crowded city of lonely people, all moving toward the promise of being briefly, overwhelmingly together.

  Director's Statement
I am obsessed with men.

When Bonnie Blue’s thousand-man gangbang became a viral spectacle in 2025, nearly all the attention was directed toward her. The thousand men who participated remained anonymous. I found myself wondering who they were. What were their motives? What had they told people they were doing that day? What private need, fantasy, or loneliness had brought each of them there? What did their lives look like before they entered the room and pulled on identical blue balaclavas?

The film begins with that curiosity. It turns away from the woman at the center of the event and toward the anonymous horde surrounding her.

What are their stories?
